How can we help?
Everything you need to get the most from The Plant Map.

Maps are custom-uploaded or drawn. A map must be added before any plants can be visible.
- Acquire your floor plan — find an existing PDF or image of your home's floor plan, use a LiDAR-based floor plan app to scan your space, or draw your own plan on paper and take a clear photo.
- Read and agree to the Terms of Service. Uploaded maps are at your own risk; any loss of data is the user's responsibility. Setting up Face ID to lock the app is necessary.
- Upload your map — go to Options → Upload Map, select your image, and tap "Save."
- Select and save — back in Options, tap the grey box outline of your map to choose it, then hit "Save."
- Return to the main screen — your map will now display and you can start adding plants.
- Tap the Options icon in the top-right corner.
- Enable Add/Move/Remove Plants.
- Tap anywhere on the map to place a new plant marker.
- Be sure you have unlocked the necessary number of plant slots you desire.
- Go to Options → Add/Move/Remove Plants.
- Switch the toggle on top to Remove.
- Tap the plant you wish to remove.
- Confirm removal by pressing the Confirmation button at the bottom.
Swipe down or up on the vertical trapezoid in the top-left corner of the screen to cycle through display labels. You can also change it in the Options menu.
- Delete all existing maps and plants via the Delete All button in Options. You must have accepted the Terms of Service to proceed.
- A demo should automatically appear. If not, you may need to exit the app temporarily. There should also be a Demo button at the bottom of the screen when all maps have been deleted.
- Explore freely — you may need to unlock more plants if you wish to have more than the 8 free included. This also applies to the app outside of the demo.
- To quit the demo, press the green "Quit Demo" button or go to Options and change the Background Map.
If you upload a map that is a different aspect ratio from your original, your markers may shift slightly.
- Go to Options → Re-scale Map and adjust the X and Y scale at the bottom slowly.
- If you wish to only use these scales for a certain device, press "Use this Scale for this Device" — useful when using the same data on multiple devices that have slightly different maps.
- If you wish to permanently bake in the new scale into the marker positions for all devices, press "Save Scale."
There are three ways to water plants:
- Hold & Water — hold a plant with your finger long enough that the raindrop symbol turns into a watering button. Release your finger, then tap the button.
- Swipe to Water — tap a plant, then at the bottom swipe to water it individually.
- Group Watering — the only way to water multiple plants at once. Enter Watering Mode by holding the water button for 1.2 seconds, or enable "Swipe to Water" in Options. Pre-select your plants, then confirm with a date at the bottom.
A one-time adjustment that doesn't affect the plant's normal watering interval — for those random occasions, or just to adjust as plants regularly do.
Positive values increase the interval between waterings, shifting the watering date later. Negative values decrease the interval, pulling it earlier. Tap the number on the dial or swipe your finger on the dial to change the boost amount.
This is a one-time adjustment and will reset after each watering. If you want a more permanent interval change, the slider is more appropriate.
Some weeks it might rain every day or for half the week. Instead of increasing the boost for each affected plant individually, you can use the Cloudy Days function (included with all bundle purchases).
- Go to Options → Advanced → Cloudy Days. Ensure you've purchased a bundle and enable the toggle.
- Choose which plants to mark as "heavily weather affected" — tap a plant's marker on the map, scroll to "Weather Affected," and enable it. Repeat for each desired plant.
- When you wish to apply a group snooze, tap the cloud button at the bottom of the main map screen (only visible when Cloud Snooze is enabled in Options).
- Choose 1×, 2×, or 3×. A single cloud snooze is defined in Options — it can be either a full day increase or a fraction of each plant's interval.
There is also a button above the Group Cloud Button that activates Boost Mode, which lets you select specific plants to apply a boost to.
You can enable custom colors in Options → Color Scheme → Enable Custom Colors.
Your custom color replaces the plant's outline once it is past the blue 24-hour post-watering outline. When plants exceed 100% of their watering interval, they will begin to flash orange.
Custom shapes are available to both Hobbyists who have unlocked 25 plants and Master Gardeners who have unlocked unlimited plants. Along with Shapes, these bundles also include Cloud Group Snooze and — for Master Gardeners — the ability to backup.
Each plant has its own individual care tasks. Care Task 1 is set to "Fertilize" by default and is auto-populated. It is the only task whose checkboxes are always visible in the watering history.
Other task checkboxes can be viewed by tapping the pencil edit button beside each row in the history. Care tasks can be edited or deleted in the Care Task window for each plant.
You must purchase the Master Gardener upgrade before you can use this feature.
To export:
- Press the Generate Export Data button in Options to create a backup of all your plants.
- Press the share button to choose where to save or send the ZIP file.
- Please be very careful where you share or save it, as it may contain sensitive information.
- The floor plan image is NOT backed up due to privacy reasons — you will need to save it separately.
To import:
- Unzip the exported file to a location accessible to The Plant Map. You can usually do this by tapping the zipped file in the Files app.
- In the unzipped folder, find the folder named importEverythingInsideHere containing the .json and photo files.
- Go to Options → Import. Navigate to the importEverythingInsideHere folder and tap any item inside it.
- At the bottom-left, a "Select All" button should appear. Tap it, then tap "Open" at the top-right.
- Return out of Options — your plants should appear on the map.
